Our theme is "Energy & Environment".
Schools are an excellent place to use solar energy. For one thing, they're open during the day -- when the sun is out and when it's possible to get the most benefit from its power. And by showing solar power in action, schools can help educate the rest of the community about the benefits of this pollution-free energy source.
Schools Going Solar
New York State High Schools Use Solar Power
Although the solar energy is reducing the school's electric bills, science teachers are using the solar systems to teach students about alternative energy.
Students will chart electric output, and determine how much carbon dioxide emissions were eliminated by using the clean energy.

1. Each day more solar energy falls to the earth than the total amount of energy the planet's six billion inhabitants would consume in 27 years. Currently, we harness only about 1% of this energy.
2. Enough sunlight reaches the earth's surface each year to produce approximately 1,000 times the same amount of energy produced by burning all fossil fuels mined and extracted during the same time period.
