Charter Schools are
Taxpayer Friendly!

Charter Schools Are Public Schools

Our goal is to open a Charter School in the Backus geographical area beginning with the 2009 school year.

We know it is possible to provide an energy efficient, secure family learning environment with a small class size for the children in our communities. It is important that it be guided by dedicated teachers and supported by involved parents and community members.

We are looking for those in our area who have interest in making this a reality. If you would like to get involved or have skills that you feel would be beneficial please contact one of the following.

"If there's a better way, we will find it."

Who?
We are a group of concerned parents, grand-parents, friends & neighbors. We know that smaller class sizes "based on student needs" is important. It is our goal to provide a secure family learning environment for the benefit of students in this area.

Why?
We are pursuing the charter school option because according to Minnesota Statutes 124D.10 the purpose is to:

  1. Improve pupil learning
  2. Increase learning opportunities for pupils
  3. Encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods
  4. Require the measurement of learning outcomes and create different and innovative forms of measuring outcomes
  5. Establish new forms of accountability for schools; or
  6. Create new professional opportunities for teachers, including the opportunity to be responsible for the learning program at the school site.

The purpose of a charter law is to encourage and enable the creation of new and innovative public schools under arrangements that will stimulate districts to change and improve their schools. For students the objective is higher achievement and graduation rates. For educators it is the freedom to create different and better programs. For the system – and for the state – it is the accountability that comes from a contract relationship and the stimulus that comes from knowing a district can no longer take its students for granted.
